‘Technical error’ denies U10s of Community Games place
A recently established Ardee and District U10s GAA team is facing huge disappointment after a ‘slight technical error’ led to their exclusion from this year’s Community Games events.
The underage side, which was set up by William Martin and Michael Lundon after extensive research and consultation, combined youngsters from Ardee, Tallanstown and the surrounding areas in one team.
Training sessions and practice matches have been held in preparation for the games and a bespoke kit was designed for the team through local fundraising.
Despite this, Martin and Lundon’s hopes to see the side compete at the Community Games are looking bleak after being informed last week that the team would not be allowed to take part.
Michael wrote a letter to Community Games organisers, where he vented his dismay with the decision.
In the letter, Michael says; “We have contacted the Community Games at the national, provincial, county and local levels. Mostly we are being told not our problem. The Leinster committee could have (and still can) rectify this situation but steadfastly refuse to do so citing that the entry was technically incorrect.”
The issue relates to a failure to confirm the Ardee team as Louth winners on the newly introduced entry system, something which was completely out of the hands of anyone involved with the club.
Despite the issue being raised shortly after the entry deadline, Community Games organisers were unwilling to allow any leeway.
Celine Carroll, a parent of one of the children, told ThisIsArdee.ie; “I’ve started this online campaign as I feel it’s very unfair what’s happened to these young kids when we ourselves done everything by the book.”
“It is just heart breaking, the kids are a great wee bunch that have trained and had challenge matches to get ready. They were even presented with their kit which they would have worn with pride.”
Club representatives contacted Community Games organisers this morning but were told that the decision would not be changed.
