Irish Sign Language Awareness Week starts next Tuesday (September 25th) – and if you’ve ever wanted to try and learn some sign language to communicate with a friend or relative, then now’s your chance.

Across three nights next week, Dundalk Deaf Group are running free basic sign language classes in Dundalk and Ardee. All are welcome to the 90 minute sessions.

Dundalk Deaf Group, chaired by Kenneth Myles, will be in Ardee Library from 6.30pm to 8pm on Thursday, September 21st. The classes will also run on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the Community Church Ramparts Dundalk (Tuesday, 8pm) and Dundalk Library (Wednesday, 11am).

Everyone is welcome to learn about how to communicate with the deaf and to get Irish Sign Language recognised nationally and internationally too. Those in attendance will be shown some signs on the night as a taster.

Last year, 25 people attended the session in Ardee Library, including locally based carers who look after deaf clients at their care home. For more information about Irish Sign Language Awareness, click here.
