Dates for Your Diary: An Ardee Calendar
October 12th 2017
Tonight, the Ardee Local Policing Forum takes place at Ardee Parish Centre, getting underway at 7.30pm. With local elected representatives, county council officials, Ardee Gardai and regional Garda superintendents in attendance, the meeting offers a chance for members of the public to air concerns or ask questions. A drug crime specialist will be in attendance also tonight. All are welcome.
October 13th 2017
On Friday night this week, the Louth branch of the SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) will hold a fundraising table quiz in the clubrooms at Ardee St Marys. The quiz gets underway at 8.30pm with a table of four people costing €40 to enter. There will be a raffle on the night and a light supper served also. All are welcome to attend.
October 15th 2017
This Sunday is a big day in the local GAA calendar and while the Senior Football Championship final is the main attraction, Ardee eyes will be on the Minor Football Championship final earlier in the afternoon as Ardee St Marys take on the Geraldines at the Gaelic Grounds. Throw-in is at 1.15pm as the Marys go in search of a historic first Minor triumph as a standalone outfit.
Also on the day, stars of Louth’s 1957 All-Ireland winning side will be remembered – with that Ardonians set to be honoured for their role in the great day for local football.

If you’re looking for something more spooky this Halloween, Ardee St Marys once again host a Halloween spook-tacular, this time at Luna Nightclub on the Friday night of the Bank Holiday.
The fancy dress Halloween Ball will see doors pen on the night at 9pm and tickets will cost €15. They are now on sale from committee members or from the club shop . There will also be prizes on the night for best dressed – with two night stays in four star hotels up for grabs for best dressed male, female and couple.

Westerns GFC will pay tribute to their Junior Championship winning side of 1977 later this month, on the 40th anniversary of their memorable triumph. The club hold a dinner and presentation night at the Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross on Bank Holiday Sunday October 29th with music from Temptations and GAA broadcaster Brian Carthy will be a special guest speaker.
It’s 40 years since the Reaghstown side claimed the Second Division Football Championship McEvoy Cup. Tickets are €30 and can be obtained from any committee member.
Friday November 24th
The Ardee Baroque Festival returns to the town for it’s 14th year this coming November. Music lovers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this year’s Ardee Baroque Festival, which runs from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th November 2017 across various different venues around the town. The musical offering has something for all tastes.
As ever, the Irish Baroque Orchestra will return to perform at the festival. They have performed in Ardee every year since 2004. Aimed at music lovers young and old, the festival will also feature leading Irish soprano Sinead Campbell Wallace; a family friendly concert from Music Generation Louth’s Junior Orchestra; a solo violin recital; a talk on Irish harp from the region – and a performance by pianist Michael McHale and cellist Brian O’Kane.

A date has yet to be confirmed by Ardee Traders & Business Association are hoping to get Ardee lit up for Christmas even earlier than usual this year – with a Christmas lights switch on event pencilled in for mid to late November, instead of the usual early December date. It’s back! The Wild Goose Chase returns to Reaghstown for it’s sixth consecutive year this December. There’s a 10k run and a 5k run/walk and all proceeds will be split between Ardee Hospice and Westerns GFC. You can register online now via RunIreland.com. And while we’re at at – a quick reminder that the Reaghstown Chasers train on Saturday mornings at 9.30am and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm at the Westerns GFC track.

The Old Church on John Street in Ardee will host a new Christmas Crafts and Food Fair this December, with an emphasis on promoting local craft and food businesses. Invitations are now being taken from those interested in hosting a stand at the event, being held in conjunction between Ardee Traders and Business Association and Louth County Council.
Santa Claus will be in attendance to greet the kids and there’ll be opportunities for children to get crafty themselves by making some fun festive treats and decorations. After costs, proceeds will be donated to two local causes.

Trade inquiries can also be made to firstname.lastname@example.org and applicants will be sent out a Trade Application Form.
The cost Trade/Craft stands is €30 while Food Stands cost €50 each. Stephen Englishby of Ardee Traders is also among involved in the running of the event and he can be reached on 087 295 6880.
