A mains water supply is currently returning for most customers affected by today’s outage in Ardee due to repairs being undertaken on a broken pipe.

Irish Water have advised that repairs are complete to the pumps following a mechanical breakdown at the Ardee Water Treatment Plant. The Sliabh Breagh reservoir, which serves most of Ardee, is now refilling and a mains water supply is currently returning for most customers.

However, Irish Water say, it is anticipated that there will be continued disruption for approximately 150 properties while the network recharges and the Blakestown Reservoir level refills.

Disruption is expected in the following areas until 9am tomorrow, Thursday –  Blakestown, Ballapousta, Kilpatrick, Cluide, Rathgory, Mullameelan, Mulladrillen, Smarmore, areas of Stabannan and Dromin.

Earlier reports that the outage was due to scheduled works was incorrect and instead the outage owes to a broken pipe, which workers worked throughout the day to fix, thus restoring supply gradually.

Irish Water and Louth County Council have said they wish to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused due to this unplanned outage and thanks them for their patience while repair work was carried out to the pumps and while the reservoirs refill. A full supply was originally expected to be be returned by 6pm today.
