N2 Carrick Road to close for a month due to water upgrade

Louth County Council say they will close the N2 Carrick Road in Ardee for a month starting this Monday.

The road will be closed to vehicular traffic as work continues on the upgrade of the existing sewer network in the town. The work is part of the €7 million Ardee Sewerage Scheme Project, being overseen by Irish Water.

The N2 will be completely closed to through traffic from the junction of the N2 Carrick Road and the N52 Dundalk Road to the junction of the N2 Carrick Road and the N33 Carrickmacross roundabout.

Louth County Council say the road will be closed from 8am on Monday January 22nd and after works will reopen at 8pm on Friday February 23rd. Local access will be maintained at all times.

Diversions will be in place via the N52 Dundalk Road and the N33 Link Road.

Speaking to ThisIsArdee.ie, Fine Gael councillor Dolores Minogue said locals should prepare for disruption but she said she was confident work will be completed on time.

“I’m delighted that this upgrade is happening as it’s badly needed for the area and although there will be some disruption, hopefully not many people will be inconvenienced and work will be completed in the time frame given,” she said.

“I would ask drivers to be very aware of the Ardee Educate Together school in the vicinity because traffic will be doubly busy on the Dundalk side. Please be mindful of the school and to parents dropping off and collecting, please exercise extra caution,” she continued. “Please take extra care. We need to keep the children safe.”

Minogue has requested that a temporary school warden is put in place outside of the primary school for the duration of the works.

The work is taking place on a small section of road, on the Ardee side of the Carrickmacross roundabout. Access to the Carrick Road Service Station will still be available from the Ardee side of the N2. The area indicated in yellow below, is where the works will take place.
