What is the Family Support Service? The aim of the service is to work with people who have Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, their families and carers by providing support and information which is conducive to their needs.
The role of the Family Support Worker is very diverse and is guided by the needs of the individual with either of these conditions their family/carer.
How Can Family Support Help? SBHI liaise with people who have Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and their families and health professionals such as consultants, therapy services, continence and pain management advisors etc. They provide information, support and guidance from the time of diagnosis, which can occur during pregnancy or at the time of birth, through to adulthood.
They also provide healthcare professionals, education professionals and those working within the disability sector with information, resources and guidance, ensuring that their service users receive the best possible provisions from their multi-disciplinary team.
As well as that, they offer support guidance that can empower people to manage their own specific needs.
